Prema Racing’s Jehan Daruvala starts the sixth round of the 2022 Formula 2 season by qualifying eighth for the feature race at Baku. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver Dennis Hauger lines up third on the grid.
The long straights at the Baku street circuit means getting a timely slipstream means a lot in lap times, so it was a strategic battle between the drivers all throughout the 30-minute qualifying session on who gets the best slipstream first. In the initial runs, Daruvala managed to push himself up to fifth position, just a tenth off pole position.
In the final runs, the Indian driver did improve on his lap time, but dropped down to eighth position in the end. Nevertheless, it could be anyone’s game in the race as the top ten qualifiers were separated by just half a second.
Before we get to the feature race though, there’s a 21-lap/126km sprint race on Saturday, where Daruvala will start third, as the grid is decided by the top 10 qualifiers lining up in a reverse order. For Sunday’s 37-lap/172-km feature race, the qualifying results set up the grid order.
The sprint race on Saturday will commence at 1:55pm (IST). All races will be broadcast on Star Sports.
